Festive Eating Tips

By Dr. Joline Fernandes

The festive season is a time of the year when there are many challenges to maintaining a healthy diet. There are guidelines to help us remember what and how much we should be eating every day. With a bit of effort, we can incorporate healthy food into our diet during the festive season.

While we all want our skin to be healthy and glowing for special occasions during the festive season, a few too many late nights, sugary treats, lack of exercise & consumption of alcohol can leave our skin looking dull & damaged.

Here are some great tips for keeping your skin in tip-top condition during the holiday season!

The holidays are a time for family gatherings and festivities, but in all the celebrations, it’s easy to overindulge in all the delicious food and drink. Alcohol can make your skin look dull and dehydrated, and that is not something we want to deal with when getting dolled up for the next party. To keep your skin fresh and healthy-looking, drink a lot of water before any event where you know you’ll drink alcohol, and always drink a glass of water in between alcoholic drinks.

The holiday season is a time to indulge but try to get some healthy foods in there too! Make sure your skin gets the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay healthy. Start your day with fresh fruits, water & some stretching exercises.

With all the late nights, parties, and family fun, we often get too little sleep. Lack of sleep and the stress that comes with the holiday season can leave you with dark under-eye circles and a dull complexion. But it’s simply not called beauty sleep for nothing, so try to get at least 6-8 hours a night! Some research shows that cell regeneration, which is important for the rejuvenation of the skin, increases during sleep. This suggests that you are more likely to wake up with fresh, glowing skin if you’ve had a good night’s rest.
